Gauteng Master Builders Association awarded leading construction SHEQ performance among their members, listed below, in Midrand in August 2010.

Several women are among the SHEQ teams receiving 2009 -2010 annual awards. Three HSE learnership cadets from the Gauteng MBA 2009 class are also among the winning teams.

The learnership is registered and an application has been lodged with the Construction Seta, CETA.

6 Grinaker LTA WBHO JV at Sandton City project; The 2010 R500-m plus category, and FEM super league trophy, was received by contracts manager Sampie Smit, site safety officers Tomas Baloyi and Anton Zwart, and contract manager Reon Govender.

7 Stefanutti Stocks Building Inland achieved a five star construction safety grading on all of their 11 sites in 2010. MBA Gauteng president Chris Roberg handed the award to contracts director Greig Bastion.

Stefanutti Stocks Building Inland won the first Special Award for achieving five star safety gradings on all its 11 building sites simultaneously, as well as third place in the Best Contracts Manager category, second in Best Site Safety Officer, third in R20m to R50m contracts, second in R50m to R120m, second in R120m to R200m, and second and third in R200m to R500m category.

The sites for which Stefanutti Stocks Building Inland is honoured are Archives Nelspruit, Adcock Ingram Clayville, Protech Park, University of Pretoria Engineering Building, Shoprite Checkers Distribution Centre, Lebone College, FNB Block G Parkade, Citi Couriers, Gert Sibande, and Tau Pride development.

Greig Bastion, contracts director of Stefanutti Stocks Building Inland, commented that geographical challenges of the quest for five star grading were overcome by ensuring that the sites presented compliant documentation, and that site conditions reflected the company’s vision by good practice.

Stefanutti Stocks Inland safety manager, Fanie Boucher, and newly appointed safety administrator, Michelle Kok, played major roles in sheq performance.

“We have over the past year standardised safety systems in all provinces and encouraged inter-provincial competitiveness. Our success in the Gauteng MBA safety competition has been inspirational. A mixture of staff from two parent companies are now combining a bigger picture and are committed to star grading.

“Our site managers too, are seeking and rectifying weaknesses they had never considered before.

“Success in the Gauteng MBA competition is just the beginning. We have started a journey to create a new culture of health and safety, said Bastion.
