An incident at First Uranium’s Ezulwini Mine in Gauteng has claimed the life of one mineworker.

The incident took place on the afternoon of Thursday 17 September on the mine’s 45 level along the Middle Elsburg Reef, the company said in a statement.

The mineworker’s family has been contacted and his co-workers have been notified.

Gordon Miller, President and Chief Executive Officer of First Uranium, said: “The company views this incident in an extremely serious light and is reviewing the situation with representatives of South Africa’s Department of Mining and Minerals and organised labour. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and assure them of our support during this difficult time.”
