Legal compliance is a complex task, with 100 Acts relevant to occupational health and safety and SHEQ in SA. Several consultants offer legal register automation.

LexisNexis South Africa and Cura Software Solutions launched a compliance and corporate governance solution named CuraComply in February 2010, featuring electronic checklists of relevant Acts and Regulations, enabling compliance and SHEQ officers to identify, correct and manage non-compliant aspects.

Billy Last, CEO of LexisNexis SA, says corporate governance requires regular updates on legislative changes and interpretations that emerge from case law.

Content checklists include;
Companies Act
Occupational Health and Safety Act
Mine Health and Safety Act
FICA and FAIS requirements
Regulations in terms of these Acts

The new software ranks an organisation’s compliance statusm based on answers to questions on every individually tailored checklist, and the need for compliance with certain pieces of legislation.

After completing the survey, the CuraComply tool aggregates the results and reports on the company’s level of compliance. It then provides automated recommendations and corrective actions to address non-compliant areas of the business for each respondent, says David Smith, CFO of Cura Software Solutions.
