SANS draft standards free

South African national standards (SANS) drafts published for public comment are available in electronic format, free of charge from the SABS, subject to an online requisition form.

Persons, companies or organisations have to name the title of the draft required, and disclose name, surname, e-mail address, telephone number, name of company or organisation, postal address, reason why the draft is required, SABS Commercial client status, and industrial sector.

Requests for draft standards in paper format must follow the same requisition process. The cost of draft standards in hardcopy format is R250 plus VAT and postage. The price is subject to the annual adjustment.

Among the recent standards drafts are;

SANS 61000-4-8 (2009-11-03); Information technology equipment; Safety Part 1: General requirements; Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) Part 4-8: Testing and measurement techniques; Power frequency magnetic field immunity test. See IEC 61000-4-8:2009, idt. Applicable to mains-powered or battery-powered information technology equipment, including electrial business equipment and associated equipment, with a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V.

SANS 62223 (2009-11-03); Insulators – Glossary of terms and definitions; IEC 62223:2009, idt; Ed 1 ICS. Specifies terms defined in standards that fall under the scope of technical committee TC 36: Insulators. It covers terms that can be found in IEC 60050-471 as well as terms not appropriate for inclusion in IEC 60050-471 but used widely in the standards of IEC TC 36.

SANS 204; a voluntary standard for improving energy efficiency in buildings. The Department of Minerals and Energy may choose to make it a mandatory standard.
