South Africa. According to paramedics, a worker in Pretoria drowned after falling into a paint container on the 1st of April 2009.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Mark Stokoe reports that the man from Silverton, Pretoria, fell into the three by two meter container while at work.

There was no indication of the amount of time he had been missing before his colleagues discovered him.

When he was discovered, he was submerged in the container. He was pulled out and his colleagues attempted to revive him and also called the paramedics. The paramedics arrived on the scene and tried to revive him but failed.

According to Mark Stokoe, the man suffered chemical burns and had also ingested and inhaled paint. There was paint suctioned from his lungs after intubation (insertion of a tube into his body) to substantiate that he inhaled paint.

The exact cause of the death is uncertain as it is not clear whether he was overwhelmed by the paint fumes or if he slipped into the container.
